I have been playing the Great Highland Bagpipe since 10 years old and was originally taught by Donald Macleod in Dudhope Castle, Dundee, Scotland. I was subsequently taught by Sandy and Bill Gordon.
I am the Honorary Piper to Clan Maclean in Australia and, in that capacity, accompany the Clan Chief, Sir Lachlan Maclean of Duart and Morven, on his official visits and, with the 'Rats', performed in the 2005 Edinburgh Military Tattoo. (See adjacent Photograph)
Professionally, I am “The Piper o’ Dundee”.
Over the past few years, I have played at Celebrations of all types including weddings of all religious denominations, - at Scots Church, various Reception Centres, Public Gardens and Private Homes.
The usual schedule is:
Arrive at the venue, tune up and commence playing 30 mins before the wedding ceremony as a welcome to Guests. (a variety of tunes).
Meet the Bride’s car approximately 100m from the venue and pipe it to where the Bride shall alight. (if this is practicable and to suit the venue). Usually play Mhari’s Wedding and Murdo’s Wedding.
Pipe the Bride from the car to where the ceremony is to be conducted. e.g. down the aisle. This is optional depending upon other musical arrangements, i.e. an organist, vocalist or recorded music. I usually play a Slow Air, a gentle tune avoiding the urge to march!
Play whilst the Marriage Certificate is being signed. (Slow Airs.) - Optional
Pipe the Bride and Groom from the Ceremony (up the aisle to a lively tune) -
Optional
Play in the background as photographs are taken.
